It just doesn’t do anything unique or all that interesting with this team.Įven with all its flaws, this book thankfully isn’t a total dumpster fire and does have some redeeming qualities. There are undeniably cool, individual moments sprinkled throughout, but they never came together as a complete package for me sadly. I think that's why this didn't work as well as I thought it would, because everything in here is shit you’ve seen in millions of other Elseworlds titles.

And a pretty par for the course one at that. Sounds like every single Elseworlds ever. Some of the Leaguers are dead, there’s a mysterious tragedy in the team's past, and some of the members have beef now because of this aforementioned tragedy. It's a seven-issue Elseworlds miniseries where everything kind of sucks and the Justice League members are a bit angsty and OOC at some points. Maybe that's my fault for having expectations that were too high, but I found this to be nothing more than good. I think my main gripe is this is just an okay JL story rather than the incredible one I thought Zdarsky would be able to tell. But just because I didn’t love this doesn’t mean it’s all bad either. Sadly, even though I usually love Elseworlds and Chip, this just didn’t do all that much for me. His Elseworlds miniseries’ have also usually been good, as I loved both Spider-Man: Life Story and Spider-Man: The Spider’s Shadow, so I was expecting to love this. I usually love Chip Zdarsky, as he’s proven himself to be one of the more consistent writers nowadays with stuff like his runs on Daredevil, Invaders, and Fantastic Four: 2 in 1, as well as solid indie books like Stillwater, Newburn, and The White Trees. Now, on the eve of the universe's greatest murder trial, the League must protect the killer and reconcile their past before they are eradicated by some of their greatest villains. But tragedy has caused the League to go their separate ways, leaving the once-great team broken and disbanded. Once, the Justice League was the most powerful team of superheroes in the universe. But lately, I can tell.that you feel it."
